Food
Drive
SaddleBrooke Community Outreach Food Drive will be held
March, 1, 2008. This annual event is for the benefit of the
Tri-Community Food Bank in Mammoth and Catalina Community
Services in Catalina. Together these food banks serve many
kids, families and seniors with needs.
We are
asking the residence of SaddleBrooke to help our local
communities in need by contributing canned goods and
nonperishable food items.
Volunteers are needed to be Unit Captains to deliver bags,
pick up food, as well as individuals at the MVCC parking lot
to sort and box the food. If you are willing to help, please
call Gene and Debbie Bovee at 818-6499 or e-mail us at
elbovee@aol.com.
Through
the generosity and support of the SaddleBrooke community we
hope the 2008 food drive will be as successful as last year.
Teen
Closet
The Teen
Closet is an extension of the SBCO Kid’s Close Program which
clothes children from pre-school to K-8. The Teen Closet works
with freshmen entering their assigned Amphitheater High School
from either Coronado K-8 in Catalina or Mountain Vista School in
Oracle. These students are recommended by the school counselor
and must meet the criteria for receiving school wardrobes. The
original concept for the Teen Closet was to give these students
a leg up to feel better about themselves by having new school
clothes and working with new and fresh school supplies.
The initial
shopping trip for clothes and school supplies occurs at the end
of July prior to the freshman entering High School. The
shopping takes place at the Rooney Ranch Shopping Center where
Target and Ross Dress for Less are located on North Oracle Road
south of First Avenue in Oro Valley. Each of the selected 9th
grade students will have a personal shopping consultant, an
adult who is a member of Community Outreach. That adult will
shop with the student and help the student select appropriate
school clothing and stay within the amount of money budgeted.
All the clothing and school supplies are paid for by SBCO.
In order to
continue in the program, the students are asked to fulfill the
following requirements to qualify for another shopping trip at
the end of the semester.
-
Excellent school attendance
-
Good grades (2.0 or C average)
-
At least one meeting with your school
counselor
-
Completion of six (6) hours of volunteer
community service.
Students who
fulfill these requirements each semester will be eligible for
shopping trips throughout their high school years.
In addition,
Teen Closet students who complete the requirements throughout
high school and main a high scholastic average are going to be
eligible to compete for SBCO scholarships.
Christmas Adopt A Family
In 2007, over
$25,000 was raised through the participation of 12
SaddleBrooke units who selected this as a Christmas project
and the generous contributions to SBCO by the many other
residents in our community. Gifts were provided to 54
families in Mammoth and San Manuel as well as 151 children
from the San Carlos Indian Reservation. Adopt A Family is
an annual project for Community Outreach and we look forward
to your continued generous support.
Recycling
Mission Statement: To raise funds for
SaddleBrooke
Community Outreach Kids' Closet, while encouraging recycling.
-
Goal: To clothe at least two children per
month.
-
Help SaddleBrooke Community Outreach by
recycling aluminum cans.
-
A large dumpster is located behind the
construction offices off of Ridgeview Blvd.
-
Tucson Iron & Metal picks up this dumpster
once a month and then sends Community Outreach a check. The
amount we are receiving is approx. $250 -$325 a month.
-
This is an excellent way for us to provide
school wardrobes for the children and is a win-win situation
for the kids and the environment.
Thanks in advance for your support of this
program.
